What is going on?

Why are you afraid to touch the soap dispenser in your own home? Yah, the pump of the soap dispenser probably does have a lot of germs on it, but you know what? You wash your hands AFTER you touch the dispenser! You don't touch the dispenser then put your hands in your mouth right? You wash the germs from the dispenser off your hands...

Hand towel dispenser? That can't be good for the environment can it? That seems like an awful lot of waste. And again, in your own home? Chances are if someone in your house is sick, you are gonna get sick - unless your IMMUNE SYSTEM protects you (that's what its for). You hug and kiss your family - you touch them a lot when they are sick checking for fevers or rubbing away the chills. You are also breathing the same air they are - germs go out of them and into you.

I work in a research office with lots of doctors and patients. People come in sick, and yes, when they do, when I give them forms to fill out and they give them back - I put a little pump of Purell on or wash my hands. I don't do this with every single patient - I only do it when they are visibly sick.
I also give myself a little pump of Purell before entering the hospital - which I also visit daily. It is not to protect me from everyone else - it is to protect the sick people with weak immune systems from germs I may not know I'm carrying.
You want to know what else? I take the bus. I touch the bus seats, I touch the handles, the doors, the poles. Then I get off the bus, buy my coffee and press the lid on where I put my mouth with my dirty hands. And you know what? I rarely get sick. You know why? Because I HAVE AN IMMUNE SYSTEM. That is what my immune system is for! An immune system is like a muscle. If you don't let it fight off some common colds once in a while - it gets weak. And then you DO get sick - and that, my friends, is how "super bugs" are born. Flex your immune system muscles people - it will do you some good!

Amen sistah! :) Excellent post!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree with you more! I said the same thing about the stupid hand pump for home...it's your own home AND you wash your hands after...i mean it's crazy! And if people would just stay home when they are sick, wash their hands regularly, etc. then it wouldn't be nearly the problem it is now.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I totally agree!
ReplyDeletehahahahahh this is SO true,,I work in a medical facility and there are purell dispensers all over the place, and some of my colleagues have them in mini dispensers on their badges..Its like never enough! hahaha
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they have paper towel dispensing things, that is too much!
Saying hi from SITS! Great opinion piece. I totally agree. Our family is fairly germ-conscious but that hands-free soap dispenser and paper towels for the bathroom are really over-the-top.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
When I saw the commercial for the soap dispenser, I was wondering what the purpose was. I was perplexed, and couldn't figure out why I felt that it was completely unnecessary. Thanks for clearing things up!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the LBS social tea!
This post made me laugh. I have the same conversation with so many people. Especially after seeing the commercials for the towel dispenser. Not very green friendly.
ReplyDeletewondered over from Lady Bloggers. Great post!
Amen to this!!
ReplyDeleteI do not get those throw away towel dispensers at all.
I am not a germ-a-phob at all and I rarely get sick. My kiddos are the same.
ReplyDelete"A little dirt never hurt!" Same goes with the germs :)
Yup. You nailed in that one! Good post!
ReplyDeleteAbso-frickinlutely! Great post! Stinkin' germaphobes.
