Weightloss Wednesday

Wait... is it Wednesday? Yes.. ok...
So, I joined a gym... Yes, yes I have. Yesterday I had a meeting with a personal trainer to find out my "body age" (40 by the way - I was thinking 90). Anyway - So she TOTALLY contradicted EVERYTHING the dietitian said - she said no carbs, no fruit, no sugar - nothing.. just meat and veggies. Really, how long is that sustainable? Really?
So I emailed my dietitian and told her. She said no no no... your brain needs carbs to work. Your brain can ONLY absorb carbs - sheesh... I knew that personal trainer was a little ... you know... not all there.
So anyway - she would ask me how many servings of vegetables I eat a day - I say 6 (I really do - I like veggies) - she would look me up and down and say REALLY? I would say Yeeeees... And she would say OKAAAAAAY in that condescending tone.
You know, at least I'm trying... I went to a dietitian - got some good meal plans - joined a gym... what else does she expect? Really?
So anyway, the girl at the front desk was very nice and overheard the conversation and apologized for everything. Said she eats more carbs then meat and she looks great. We agreed to take a beginner spinning class together on Friday mornings... I've never spun? Have you spun? Will I drop dead of exhaustion if I spin?

The Exception - Not The Rule...

So I watched "He's Just Not That Into You" the other night. It is pretty accurate in an over the top way. I remember being single wondering why didn't he call... I thought the date went well... Maybe he's just busy... Maybe he's away... The truth was, he just wasn't interested.

I also agree with the movie that your girlfriends will say anything to make you feel better - he is intimidated by your: smarts, looks, maturity, etc. All example of lies - he again, is not interested.

A bit farther into the movie they speak of "exceptions" and "rules". Basically, the rule is if he calls - he's not interested, if you're the "other woman" or a "rebound" it will never work out. Then they speak of "exceptions to the rule" those girls who are the other woman, who don't get a call for months at a time, and the couple eventually ends up living happily ever after.

During my life, for many many years, I was the rule. He didn't call - he never called. I'm the rebound - it never works out - it only last a week - he never calls. Now, I am the exception. When I first met my future husband, we were not friends. I did not like him at all. He was my team lead at a job, and I thought he was lazy and could not care less about his job/life. Then I started training to be a team lead, and he was my supervisor for that - he became friends, and we started to hang out - going to movies and coffee. He had a serious girlfriend at the time who was totally fine with us hanging out. Next thing I knew, they broke up, and we started dated - making me the rebound. I thought forsure - that I was the rule. This would not work out. The rebound never lasts. I now know, that I was the exception.

Married

Well it's official... I am married!!!

Friday, September 18, 2009

What's in a name?

So... my future last name is...

wait for it...

...

Potter.

Can you freakin' believe it? When I tell people - they laugh - ask if his name is Harry. I know when I get pregnant everyone is gonna ask if we're gonna name the kid Harry. People at work started calling me Hermione.

Painful.

So JP (Future husband) send me these names we can name future children... Barry.... Larry ... Gary .... and...

Samwise...

I'm like Samwise? What's that.

Knowing JP - I know it's something nerdy - so I google it. It's the dude from Lord of the Rings who has to carry everything because poor precious Frodo has THE RING!!!

I can re-enact Lord of the Rings for you right here on the computer...

Sam: It's ok Frodo - I'll carry EVERYTHING!!! You just focus on the ring
(he is CLEARLY being sarcastic - but Frodo takes it literally)
Frodo: OH GOD!!! SOMEONE BAD IS COMING!!! *Drops sword, falls down*
Sam or Viggo (ME-OW) saves the day
Frodo: Oh God!! Bad Guy *Drops sword, falls down*
Sam or Viggo save the day
Frodo: Oh God!! Bad Guy *Drops sword, falls down*
Sam or Viggo save the day
And this goes on for HOURS... Like... Hours. I eventually fell asleep.

Embarassing side note: JP wanted his wedding band to be engraved to look like the Lord of the Rings ring...

Anyway - we are off to get married!!! As of Sept 21st I'll be MRS. POTTER!!! I may or may not be posting when I'm away - but I'll see yah in a week!!!

The Town I Live In...

When people think of Canada - they think of this...

This is where I live... it snows maybe once a year for about a week (if that). Sometimes it doesn't snow at all. This is my version of Canada...

We have lots of culture... and... LOTS of wildlife...

Weightloss Wednesday

Sorry for the late post guys. Welcome to Weight loss Wednesday.

So I find Jillian Michaels to be the ultimate role model for weight loss and being buff. She is an advocate for working out hard and eating well. No pain, no gain.

I do find her a little intense at time - I don't need someone screaming in my face - but she's no frill, no gimmicks ...

...

Until now...

Now she is selling diet pills - $100.00 / bottle. Take a magic pill and lose weight. The side effects of these diet pills you ask? They include nausea, dizziness, erratic heart rate, and vomiting.

Um... do you think erratic heart rate is healthy for an obese individual?

What do you think of this? Do you think she's selling out, or do you think it's a good idea?

**UPDATE**

Here is Kayne West on Jay Leno last night...

What do you all think?

Shark Week

Is anyone obsessed with Discovery Channel Shark Week? I am glued to the TV for every shark show. I don't know why - but I am TOTALLY fascinated by them. For a couple months after shark week I'm pretty freaked out to even go in a lake - but man... they are AMAZING creatures!!

I also think everyone should see the movie Sharkwater. It is SO sad - but people really need to know what's going on... Shark Fiin Soup/Salad is bad everyone... bad.. don't eat it.

A big part of Sharkweek is trying to prove that sharks don't actively seek out humans for feeding and that they mistake people for seals. Ummmmm.... I'm not sure about that. I mean... if they're hungry and you are on their turf... then... they eat what they find. I think they are fabulous, and aren't vicious killers... but... if they are hungry and you are in the way - I don't think they would pass you by if they realized you are human...

Music Monday Rant

Good Morning everyone!!! It's MONDAY again... How was every one's weekend? I had my bridal shower this weekend - we leave on Saturday and get married on Monday!!!! Wow... so close!!!

Anyway, instead of showing a video today, I must rant....

So, I watched part of the VMA's last night - and saw the whole Taylor Swift / Kayne West situation.

Now I don't know who Taylor Swift is, but I do know that she is a LITTLE GIRL!!! She's 17 years old. I admittedly don't know much about Kayne West except for maybe 2 songs and some other silly things he has done at awards shows, but I do know that he is an ADULT, and need not pick on little girls!!!

I understand when you have a small penis you need to do things to make it look bigger, but taking a little girl's moment in the sun away only makes your penis smaller.

And what is Santa going to think? It's like... 3 months to Christmas - I think Kayne is gonna get a big lump of coal and poor little Taylor a Pony.

And then there is Beyonce... Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce.. ok, I just like saying her name. She is of course the beautiful cherub that swooped down, waved her magic wand and gave Taylor her shining moment in the sun. I bet Santa brings her diamonds... Lots and lots of diamonds.

What did you think of that whole thing? Did you watch?

Weightloss Wednesday

Aspartame. Everyone has an opinion on it. I notice a lot of diet books, diet sites, etc. say to drink diet coke, not coke. Eat low calories foods, drinks usually containing aspartame. A friend of mine will not drink a regular pop to save her life. It HAS to be diet diet diet. She also uses Splenda which she claims is better, as well as Stevia.

I for one eat sugar. Unbleached raw sugar. I will not eat Aspartame, Splenda or Stevia. Yes, I am overweight, but I don't think its worth it. About 20 minutes after I have my first mouthful of Diet Pop I have the Worst. Headache. Ever. And I KNOW it's the Aspartame.

On the more extreme side of things: My sister used to drink 4 Litres of diet coke every single day. That's extreme. I don't think many people drink that much in one day. Over about 3 years, she was very sick. The doctors were positive she had MS. She had tingling in her hands, she couldn't think straight, she was in a lot of pain, and some days she could not get out of bed. She literally could not walk. She did not have the strength the stand - even for a moment. She had an MRI and thank Goodness it was not MS. She lived like this for a while when I suggested she go to a Naturopath. Conventional medicine was not working, she was willing to try anything. The first thing the Naturopath said is "do you drink diet pop" she said yes. He said stop. She did... and within about 6 months, she was fine. She is a whole new person. It's amazing. That is the main reason I refuse Aspartame.

TLC

Do you remember, back in the day, when TLC was - The Learning Chanel? It was kind of a mix of the discovery channel, the history channel, and animal planet? Hmmmm... I loved it back then. I could seriously have that channel on ALL day when I was in Junior High (Yes, that was about 15 years ago). But now... Now.. It's like - how many children can you pump out, now, lets take these babies that you pumped out and put makeup and crowns and dresses on them - get them some hair extensions and fake teeth and make them compete.
Really?

That Toddlers and Tiara's... I can't even watch that. Who thinks that ok? I think that when you are 15+ and you think yah, I want to compete in pageants - totally fine. Totally fine. But when you are not working and spending every penny you have to buy a floofy dress for your little 5 year old - spending thousands of dollars on dancing coaches and singing coach and hair extensions and tooth molds and tanning solution... really. It's too much! It makes me sick.

I mean, she is very cute - naturally, no makeup, no false hair, no spray tan - very cute. But that pic is just wrong!!!

And what's going on with John and Kate Plus 8? Those poor freakin kids! There parents fighting, and throwing blame at each other in magazines and on TV. If it really was all about the kids, they would have quit the show and worked on their marriage. But I would probably have issues giving up $75,000/ episode too.

And the Duggars? Really? Are those kids just walking out of the womb now? Really?

Ok, I'm done... I just thought that was silly!

Music Monday

Hey everyone. Hope you are all having a great long weekend!! Woohoo!!!
Today's music is another Canadian Band called The Tea Party. I absolutely love them. I have never heard a bad song by them. They are no longer together, but the lead singer is doing some solo stuff. Check them out!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

There are a few people out there that REALLY rub me the wrong way...

This mess really gets my eye twitching

Look what they are up to now...

Spencer Pratt is legally changing his name to “King Spencer Pratt.”
“I’ve decided since there is a Queen of England and a Prince William that there should be a king of America,” the 25-year-old Hills star tells Us Weekly. “I nominate myself for that role.”
Spencer’s wife Heidi Montag tells Star via her rep: “If I am married to the king, doesn’t that automatically make me a queen?” Read more: http://justjared.buzznet.com/#ixzz0PuSS5rx6

And there goes the eye twitch.

Just as a side note - this is totally how I sit at the beach. It's surprisingly comfortable and really, how appealing...

Have a great looooooooooooooooooooong weekend everyone!

Twilight

Why do all the girls get excited over this...

When this...

is in the same movie - and is WAY hotter?

Im confused.

Is it age? Is it because I'm at the age where some dude hanging out in your room is creepy and not sexy? Or same dude being so crazy about you, needing to be with you every second and thirsts for blood when you so much as say hi to another guy ... is maybe a little... over possesive? A little jealous... A little crazy? Not. So. Hot? Or is it because I realize that they are actors, and the first guy... whats his face... RPatz isn't actually a sexy vampire? He's just some nerd with messy hair? And the other guy (I don't even know who he is in the movie) is dead. sexy. vampire or not?

Age

I'm going with age.

I'm old aren't I?

Ummmm, am I gonna get mugged and beaten by twilight fans now? In a dark alley? Late at night...

Weightloss Wednesday

There are so many diets out there.

So many diets.

It is so confusing.

According to my dietitian, the best, healthiest diet is following the food guide. If you follow a lot of diet's that celebrities claim to follow - or popular diets, the food guide has WAY too many carbs.

8-11 servings of whole grains/day - keeping in mind that 2 pieces of bread is 3 grains, 1/2 a cup of rice is another. However, with a low carb diet - even a cracker is too much?

I have tried a few diets in my time. The low carb ones do take the weight off quickly, but can you really live your entire life without another piece of bread?

Really?

Two things I know about myself?

1. If you tell me I can't have something - that is all I want...

2. Once I have said bad thing - then I'm off the wagon - I've already ruined the day - might as well eat this and this oh, and some of that.

Diets with restrictions do not work for me.

What has worked for you?
