Vaseline Update

I stated HERE, that I was going to do a Great Lash Experiment. I committed to apply Vaseline to my lashes every evening for eight weeks in order to see if it made my lashes longer, thicker, fuller.

I have been doing this for 10 nights now. I don't notice a change in the appearance of my lashes when they are nude, aside from the fact that they are softer. I have noticed however, that I lose less lashes when washing my face or remove eye makeup. Plus, I've had comments from co-workers and my husband that my lashes look great.

My boss asked me what mascara I used. She said that she thought I changed to an amazing new mascara because my lashes looked longer and fuller. I have also noticed now that when I look out of the corner of my eye that my view is partially blocked due to lashes.

Short story on that - I had a mild panic attacked the first time my lashes blocked my vision as I thought:
1. I was going blind
2. I was having a stroke
3. I have MS
I panicked. I thought I was dying - my heart was racing - but, it was just my eyelashes.

So, so far the Vaseline seems to make lashes healthier - which in turn makes them fall out/break less, which in turn makes them thicker and fuller. Again, there is no difference when they are nude (which is why I did not attach a picture), but with mascara they do have more volume.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil

Good morning ladies. Does anyone else have a severe case of the Monday's today? A few of you asked me about the amazing - stay on all day - eyeshadow.
The pencil I used underneath my shadow is NYX Jumbo Eye pencil - find it HERE. I do use it as a base for everyday because it's cheap, it works, and it makes your eyeshadow look more true to colour. It looks like it's a measly 3.50$ in the US, its about 6.00$ here in Canada, but regardless - cheap!
Here are a couple examples of how it works:
The two inside colours have the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in MILK under them. The two outside colours are the same shadow as the inside - they just don't have the MILK under them. The NYX pencil makes the colour stick to your eye, not smudge, crease or fade. It makes the colours much more vibrant.

This one is Constellation by Lancome and a gold by Lancome - the label scratched off as I use it all the time. Again, the inside colours have NYX Milk under - the outside has nothing. I know it's hard to see the gold, but the black you can really tell the difference. The non NYX looks brown, and with NYX it's a true black.
I highly recommend it!
Oh, and if you DO have a case of the Mondays - THIS made my day...

Interruption...

I interrupt this "sincere" apology from Tiger Wood - given only in front of a hand picked audience *rolls eyes* to tell you my own story of woe.
I am not a multi-millionaire. I HAVE to work for a living - in order to pay bills. Sometimes my jobs is so awesome I love going to work - sometimes not so much.
Tuesday was a not so much day. I was being scolded for something that I'm still unclear why I was being scolded (does that make sense?) I felt attacked - I got angry - when I'm angry, I cry... and I cry... and I cry.
Finally - when I am able to pull it together - my eyes water for the rest of the day.
Then, I see my husband - he says "how was your day" and I cry, and I cry, and I cry.
Can I tell you - my eye makeup did not budge. It did not melt into the crease - it did not run down my face, it did not fade. It looked the same at the end of the day as it did that morning.
What is this magical makeup you ask? Everyday Minerals Eyeshadow with a very thin layer of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk underneath.

Canada - The True North Strong and Free...

Obviously, a lot of attention has been on Canada lately. Some myths were broken, some truths discovered, we even got some digs in. I have done a post on Canada and where I live IN THE PAST if you are so inclined to wonder.

I have heard a lot of *gasps* and confusion over why Celine Dion and Shania Twain were not at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Well my friends, Canada has a lot of talent. More than you probably realize. I myself am not a fan of Celine Dion or Shania Twain and am happy they weren't there. I think KD Lang did an AMAZING job of Leonard Cohen's (also Canadian) Hallelujah.

Canada has also brought you Pamela Anderson, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Barenaked Ladies, Michael Buble, Jim Carey, Hayden Christensen, Douglas Coupland (if you don't know who that is you need to go to the bookstore and get some stuff), Michael J Fox, David Foster, The Guess Who, Avril Lavigne, Rachel McAdams, Sarah McLachlan, Mike Myers, Alanis Morissette, Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Perry, Keanu Reeves, Rush, Alex Trebek, and Neil Young to name a few.

Some famous SNL-ers come from Canada: Dan Aykroyd, Phil Hartman, Martin Short, Rick Moranis and even Lorne Michaels.

My husband’s hero, William Shatner, also Canadian. James Cameron is Canadian (what would we do without Avatar, Terminator, Titanic). Cirque de Soleil and IMAX also originate from Canada.

There are a lot of stereotypes surrounding Canada – some true – some false.

Canadians are polite. We do say please and thank you a million times a day. We have a great education system. We learn about every country, every leader of every country, capitals, populations - of literally everywhere. I always find it shocking that our neighbors, even directly across the border, know nothing about us really.

We don't carry guns. We don't have guns for protection - all our guns are registered and used mainly for hunting. We can't just go out and get a gun, nor do we want to really. I have never seen a real gun. If, for some reason I was shot, I could go to the hospital, free of charge, and be treated.

A doctor that worked with us for a while was offered a job in the US. He took it as they get paid better in the states. After 2 weeks of having to turn people away who absolutely needed medical intervention in order to survive because they did not have insurance. He returned to Canada. Universal health care is the way to go. I don't understand what everyone is waiting for.

The weather is a big misconception. I have been here in a colder Canadian climate in the dead of winter, and I have been in Minneapolis in the dead of winter, and yah... Minneapolis was rough. Really rough. I would say it was worse than anywhere I have ever been in Canada - and I have lived in the Yukon. I fortunately, live on the west coast. We have had no snow at all this year and generally experience mild temperatures year round. Two years ago we had a hard winter - that means that the snow stuck around for a week. Usually it just falls prettily onto the ground and melts - if it snows at all.

We do not live in Igloos. We have big cities and small towns like everywhere else. We have big shopping centres (yes, we spell centre, metre, and other words differently), we learn on the metric system, we say ZED and not ZEE. We have an over abundance of wildlife that happily walks through the downtown core of some of our towns.

I can see the Pacific Ocean from my backyard (literally). And our Cherry Blossom tree's are already in full bloom!

The Great Lash Experiment

There are a lot of "lash enhancers" out there. Promising longer, thicker, fuller, and sometimes even darker lashes. Most of these enhancers start at $20.00 (CAN) and can go up to thousands of dollars. They come in the form of gel liners, mascara's and actual treatments.

I am interested in these treatments as I only have OK lashes. They are average length, average thickness, and, despite my almost black (natural colour) hair, they are quite light.

I have been doing some research on these lash enhancers, and read quite a few statements that Vaseline, in fact, enhances your lashes by keeping them in great condition, lessens fallout and breakage.

Confession - I rub my eyes. A lot. I know, its so so so bad - causes wrinkles, makes your lashes fall out - but no matter what I do - I can't stop.

So I went to my local drug store. Bought a huge tub of Vaseline for $2.99 (CAN). I plan to apply Vaseline to my lashes every evening before bed for 8 weeks. I will update this blog every week or so and keep you up to date on how it's going.

This is what I'm starting with *click to enlarge*
Sorry for the crappy pictures. I assure you they are just normal average lashes.
These are my tools. The jar of Vaseline and my Clinique spoolie brush. I will keep you all up to date on how it goes. If it works, it is a very inexpensive alternative to expensive lash treatments.
Have any of you tried any lash enhancing treatments? What works well for you?

An Open Letter To Debbie Gibson

Debbie Debbie Debbie (no I will not call you DebRAH)

What have you done to yourself? You are BEYOND thin, and to be honest, I can't even tell it's you - at all. Your face look COMPLETELY different.
Come on Debbie, just because New Kids on the Block are giving it another go - doesn't mean every 80's teen popper needs to try. You don't see Tiffany out there in her bikini talking about (quote from Debbie):
“I’m at 114 pounds. I was okay at my previous weight, but I felt like my inner diva did not match my outer diva.”
“I feel hotter and more in control. It’s even improved my sex life. You shouldn’t get your whole self-worth from how you look, but at 39, I think it’s okay to focus on the outside a bit if it makes you feel good.”
Debbie, I'm begging you - put on some stirup pants with some slouch socks. Back comb those bangs, rub some DEP gel in your hair, throw on your black hat, spray on some Electric Youth perfume... You're better than this... In the famous word of you - remember when you were young!

Alexander McQueen

The absolutely amazing Alexander McQueen has passed away. You can read the full article HERE. Daily Mail is claiming that he has committed suicide, but that is not yet confirmed.

McQueen was expected to present his latest collection on March 9 during Paris Fashion Week. One of his contemporary lines, McQ, was scheduled to be shown at New York Fashion Week on Thursday afternoon, but the event was canceled.

So sad... what do you think of this?

More Plastic Surgery

So, here we have a clip of a young girl who dated a man who was obsessed with Jessica Alba. He wanted her to dress like her and even bought her a blonde wig to look like her.

This girl was eventually overwhelmed by the pressure and broke up with him.

YAY HER!!!

GOOD THINKING!!!

But now... she misses him... she wants him back. Her friends, clearly always the voice of reason, suggested she get plastic surgery to look like Jessica Alba to win him back.

Great idea right?

Right?

....

um...

No...

Poor girl... what's wrong with these people?
